Zoe Saldana was born on June 19, 1978 in Passaic, New Jersey, to Asalia Nazario and Aridio Saldana. Her father was Dominican and her mother Puerto Rican. She was raised in Queens, New York. As she reached the age of 10, she and her parents moved to Dominican Republic. They lived in the Dominican Republic for seven more years. Zoe discovered a love to dance while in Dominican Republic. She began training at ECOS Espacio de Danza Dance Academy in which she was able to study dance and various forms of dance. The instruction she received was not only a great opportunity for an active, enthusiastic child but it was also a best preparation for her eventual profession as an actor. Zoe's family and she relocated to United States when Zoe was 17 years old. She was a dancer with a passion and a desire to be on stage grew.
